More Information

Day One (L,D)
Travelling south on the Silver City Highway, we stop midway to Wentworth, trekking further inland to Scotia Sanctuary. The Sanctuary coves 680 square kilometres and is privately owned. A total of 80 square kilometres has been fenced to keep out foxes, cats and other carnivorous species, as well as excluding all excluding all cattle, sheep, horses, etc. Scotia is now home and important breeding station for a number or rare Australian animals. These include the Numbat, Bilby, Bettong, Bridled Nail-tailed Wallaby and Lesser Stick-nest Rats. Most, if not all, are either extinct on the Australian mainland or are extremely rare. A visit to this sanctuary is essential if you want to see what Australia was like before the coming of the white man to the continent.

Day Two (B,L,D)
Departing Scotia, we continue south to Wentworth, on the banks of the Darling River. This afternoon we visit Perry sand hills for your chance at dune photography. This beautiful windswept area reveals great patterns on the late afternoon light. Tonight we camp here in a bush camp, waiting for the sunrise.

Day Three (B,L,D)
Sunrise photography over the sand hills before breakfast is a must. Then it's eastward to Lake Mungo NP in the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Region. Evidence of aboriginal occupation of the area is continuously apparent as the spectacular lunette landscape slowly erodes. The famous buried skeleton remains of “Mungo man” have been dated at more than 40,000 years old. This afternoon we visit the NP heritage centre to gain an insight into the history of the region. We then capture the intricate play of light across the lunette landscape as the sun sets in the west.

Day Four (B,L,D)
Today is spent exploring the Lake Mungo area, with its fascinating landscape of prominent outcrops and white sand hills. A second chance at the sunset is available tonight.

Day Five (B,L,D)
Today we commence the homeward journey through the Hay Plain and past some of the other dry lakes in the mid-west. Late afternoon we stop near Forbes to view the prolific birdlife on the man-made lake.

Day Six (B,L,D)
Today we make our way back to Sydney through the central wheat belt regions of Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst, before we cross into the spectacular Blue Mountains for our last night together.

Day Seven (B,L)
This morning you relax and enjoy the commentary as you visit remote lookouts, waterfalls, cliffs and chasms of the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains. In the later afternoon, you will return to the city, thus ending an amazing journey of discovery
